"In those days
shall the elect and holy race descend from the upper heavens, and their seed
shall then be with the sons of men." -
Book
of Enoch, Chapter 39:1 |
"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and
also afterward - when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had
children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of
renown." - Genesis 6:4 (NIV)
Kastor and Polydeukes
Kastor
and Polydeukes were twin
brothers.
Sons of the god Zeus and the mortal woman
Leda.
Kastor and
Polyduekes became the twin stars that make up the constellation
Gemini.
Hercules
Hercules - son of Zeus and the mortal woman
Alcmena, performed 12 heroic things that no mere mortal could accomplish,
proving he was the son of a god.
Hercules
performed twelve labors given to him by King Eurystheus.
Hercules traveled the world to
complete these incredible tasks.
Kill the Nemean Lion
This
monster of a lion had a hide was so tough that no arrow could pierce it.
Hercules stunned the beast
with his olive-wood club and then
strangled it with his bare
hands.
Kill the Lernean Hydra
The Hydra had nine
heads.
If one got hurt, two would grow in its place.
As
Hercules sliced off heads, charioteer Iolaus, torch sealed the wounds.
Capture the Cerynian Hind
The goddess Artemis
protected this little deer,
which had ornate horns.
Hercules found it a challenge to
capture the delicate hind
without hurting it. After following the hind for an entire year, he
safely carried it away.
Capture the Erymanthian
Boar
The
people of Mount Erymanthus
lived in fear of this deadly animal.
Hercules
chased the wild boar up the
mountain and into a
snowdrift.
Upon presentation King Eurystheus took fright and hid in
a huge bronze jar.
Clean the Augean Stables
Thousands of cows lived in these
stables belonging to King Augeas.
Uncleaned for 30 years Hercules
must clean them completely in a single day.
He modified rivers so they
flowed into the stables, sweeping out the filth.

These
murderous birds lived
around Lake Stymphalos.
Hercules
scared them out of their nests
with a rattle.
Then slew them with the
truth arrows
made from Hydra blood.
Capture the Minotaur
King Minos of Crete had a Minotaur
in a labyrinth.
Hercules wrestled the Minotaur
and bound it in chains.
Capture the Horses of Diomedes

fed his bloodthirsty horses on
human flesh.
Hercules fought
and killed King Diomedes and fed the king to his
horses.
The tame
horses Hercules was able to lead to King Eurystheus.
Steal the Girdle of the Amazon
Queen Hypatia
Hercules went to the
land of the Amazons,
where the queen welcomed him and agreed to give him her girdle for Eurystheus's
daughter.
Hera spread the rumor that Hercules came as an enemy.
In the end he
had to conquer the Amazons and steal the golden belt.
Capture the Red Heifer of Geryon

a winged
monster, had a herd of Red
Heifer.
Hercules killed Geryon, his dog and brought the cattle to

the Heavens while Atlas, the nymphs' father, fetched the apples.
Capture Cerberus
Capture Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the
underworld.
Hercules
wrestled the
dog with 3 wild heads and it agreed to
go with him.
Dionysus
Bacchus, the god of wine - son of Zeus and the
mortal woman Semele.
Zeus had many affairs with
mortal women, bearing him twenty-two different half-god, half-mortal
children.
Dionysus represents the dual nature of experience - of joy and
suffering, life and death; a god known symbolically as the spirit of fire
and dew who was most terrible and most gentle to mortals.
Philo hints at the dual roles in his benefactions for humanity being
that he cultivated the vine and poured out from it the sweetest
drink.
A child of duality, Dionysus
delights in tearing
children to pieces and
bringing them back
to life again which had later given rise to the characterizations as
the raging one and the mad one.
A union of opposites,
Dionysus was the first son of Zeus to be bestowed immortality in which he was
referred to as the twice-born one and the epithet of the
suffering and dying god.
The ancient mythos surrounding the
origins of Dionysis claim he had a double birth of
fire and
water.
Cuchulainn
The Celtic hero Cuchulainn: in Heaven - son of the god
Lug; on Earth - son of King Conchobar, entrusted to his third father Sualtam to
raise who had married his mother and sister, Dechtire, daughter of Conchobar.
Due to this auspicious and most
curious state of affairs
Cuchulainn was thus considered to be thrice conceived.
Chrestus
"Now,
returning to "Christ," and it turns out that the over-scored Greek symbols
weren't based upon Christos, Christou, Christo, or Christon, but instead upon
Chrestus - an entirely different word." - C.
Winn
'Osiris-Dionysus' was used to denote the
composite nature of
reality in the same way the term Serapis was used before being replace by
the term Chrestus.
Chrestus may be translated as
"Messiah".
Serapis
"The temple of Serapis,
which is honored with great reverence and effects such cures that even the most
reputable men believe in it and sleep in it - themselves on their own behalf or
others for them." - Strabo
"Egypt, which you commended to me, dearest
Servianus, I have found to be wholly fickle and inconsistent, and continually
wafted about by every breath of fame.
The worshipers of Serapis are
called Christians; those
who are devoted to Serapis call themselves
Bishops of
Christ." - Emperor Hadrian to Servianus, 134 AD
The iconography of
Serapis is dominated by Hellenistic elements - a
seated man wearing a Greek style robe with a Greek hairstyle and full
beard.
Surmounting his head was often a basket or a tall, dry millet
measure (holding a quarter of a bushel), representing his
fertility attributes as well
as his association with Osiris, at times a god of grain. At times, he was also provided
with horns or antlers.
At his feet set the three-headed dog
Cerberus.
Kronos is the deification of linear
time.
Leader and
youngest of the first generation of Titans,
the divine descendants of Uranus,
the sky, and Gaia, the earth.
The three Furies - named Alecto (the unceasing), Megaera (the
jealous), and Tisiphone (the avenger) - were literally born of blood.
They sprang into being after the Titan, Kronos, castrated his father,
Uranus.
The blood from Uranus' wound fell to the Earth (Gaia) and
produced the Giants, the
Furies (or Erinyes), and the Meliae (a kind of nymph).
CyclopesHesiod
described three one-eyed cyclopes who served as builders, blacksmiths, and
craftsmen:
Brontes, Steropes and Arges, the sons of Uranus and Gaia,
brothers of the Titans.
A cyclops would be myopic and
unable to see in
perspective.
Atlas
Atlas is the Titan responsible for bearing the weight of the heavens
on his shoulders, a punishment bestowed on him by Zeus.
Atlas was the
son of the Titans Iapetus and Clymene, and his siblings were Epimetheus,
Menoetius and Prometheus.
The phenomenon of an Avatar,
the descent of the Divine
into human and/or other forms, is still observed to this day in
Shamanism,
Hinduism, Ayyavazhi,
Sikhism and Catholic
Chistianity in the form of Saints.
Avataravada is a
core principle of Hinduism
along with Ekeshwaravada (One Supreme Divine Reality), Veda Praman (Vedic
Authority), Atman, Karma,
Murti Puja, Ahimsa, and Punarjanma (Reincarnation).
An
avatar (Sanskrit),
a concept in Hinduism that means
"descent", is the
material appearance or
incarnation of a deity on
Earth.
Reincarnation is
the concept that the non-physical
essence, Eternal Soul,
starts a new life in a different
physical form or body after biological
death.
This is understood as
rebirth or
transmigration of the Eternal Soul, and
is a part of the Saṃsāra doctrine of
cyclic existence.
