"Mercury, in its two most common forms that
threaten human health - methylmercury and ethylmercury (thimerosal used in
vaccines) - is the second most toxic substance perhaps after uranium.

The Committee's 80-page report, "Mercury in Medicine: Taking
Unnecessary Risks," is a clear indictment charging the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC), Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) and Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) with scientific bias,
prejudiced financial
interests with vaccine makers, and administrative incompetence that puts
Americans' health at risk.
Dr. David Baskin, Professor of Neurosurgery
at Baylor College of Medicine, told the Committee that brain tissue
absorbs mercury five times more than other body tissues.
Infants and
small children are furthermore five times more sensitive to mercury's
toxicological effects compared to adults.

manufacturers to conduct adequate safety testing on thimerosal and ethylmercury

making felt required the use of mercury and many felt hat makers went mad

mercurialis, mad hatter disease, or mad hatter syndrome, is
a neurological disorder
which affects the whole central nervous system derived from mercury poisoning

Higher risk jobs include construction, industrial work,
and working in factories.

(vapor, methylmercury, inorganic mercury) are more toxic than other

The human fetus and medically compromised people with lung or
kidney problems are the most susceptible to the toxic effects of

begins marketing mercury(I) chloride (Hg)2+Cl2 - as the
rare mineral Calomel.
1793 Calomel is used to
treat sufferers of yellow fever during its outbreak in
Philadelphia.
Given to patients as a purgative or cathartic it is administered to
patients in such great quantities hair and teeth fall out.
Organic
mercury toxicosis usually occurs through ingestion of contaminated food
products, especially fish and seafood products due to bioaccumulation of
mercury from contaminated water.
Blue mass, a concoction
containing mercury, was used as a specific
treatment for syphilis from at least the late 17th century to the early
18th.
Blue mass was recommended as a remedy
for such widely varied complaints as
tuberculosis, constipation,
toothache, parasitic infestations, and the pains of childbirth.
A
combination of blue mass and a mixture called the common black draught was a
standard cure for constipation in early 19th century England.
The
ingredients of blue mass varied, as each pharmacist prepared it himself, but
they all included mercury in elemental or compound form (often as mercury
chloride, also known as calomel).
One recipe of the period included
(for blue mass syrup): 33% mercury (measured by weight); 5% licorice; 25%
Althaea (possibly hollyhock or marshmallow); 3% glycerol; 34% rose
honey.
1823 Mormon prophet Joseph Smith's eldest
brother Alvin Smith dies from mercury poisoning using
calomel.
Organomercurials readily cross the
blood brain barrier and
placenta, where fetal blood levels can exceed maternal blood levels by up to
20%.
Organomercurials also are secreted into milk.
The
biological half-life of organic mercury in humans is approximately 65
days.

M.Taveau in France invents mercury amalgam fillings.

AlliedSignal dumps 165,000
pounds of mercury into Onondaga Lake near Syracuse, New York.
Onondaga
Lake is now listed as a federal Superfund site.
Other industrial
pollutants dumped include benzene,

The state cleanup plan, initially estimated to take 17 years to
complete, calls for dredging and cap over 2,329 acres at a cost of $2.33

Eli Lilly markets the compound under the trade name
Merthiolate.
Thimerosal or Thiomersal, an organomercury compound (sodium
ethylmercurithiosalicylate), is a preservative widely used in childhood
vaccines since the 1930s.
1956 Minamata
neurological syndrome
first desribed.
Chisso Corporation discharges mercury sulfate and
methylmercury in industrial wastewater from the chemical factory into Minamata
Bay and the Shiranui Sea from 1932 to 1968.
Highly toxic chemical
bioaccumulated is

human deaths

Eli Lilly donated more

Eli Lilly was
then exempted in the Homeland Security Act from
liability for the mercury base
thimerosal, a vaccine preservative that is 50% mercury by weight, which
causes nerve damage in infants, sometimes resulting in autism.
The
diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus
vaccine (DPT) with a thimerosal mercury base, has never been safe
for all children.

individuals to grow at different rates and to have

2004 A study by
researches at Columbia University find that mercury contained in the vaccine
preservative thimerosal can cause autism like
symptoms in mice.
A professor of
biochemistry and
pediatrics at the University
of Arkansas discovered that children with autism had lower levels of a mercury
detoxifying chemical, glutathoine, which helps rid the body of mercury and
other heavy metals.
The study raises concern that children with lower
levels of glutathoine may be more prone to
neurological damage when
exposed to mercury in vaccines or other sources.
2005 Observers from the University of Texas Health Science
Center concluded that autism rates are higher in Texas counties with high
levels of reported mercury emissions.
The counties with facilities
releasing high levels of mercury emissions had an average 17% increase in the
rate of autism for every 1,000 pounds of mercury discharged.
A study
concludes that increases in influenza
vaccinations from 15% to 65% of the elderly over 65 from 1968 to 2001 has
no effect on elderly mortality rates suggesting a
lack of
efficacy.
2006 Study links mercury poisoning
to consumption of fish.
"We saw a direct relationship between people's
mercury levels and the amount of store bought fish, canned tuna fish or locally
caught fish people consumed," said Steve Patch, co-director of the
Environmental Quality Institute at University of North Carolina.
A study
by Dr. Mark Geier, published in the Journal of American Physicians and
Surgeons, found a reduced incidence of autism using vaccines that did not
contain the mercury containing preservative thimerosal.
Observers at
University of California Davis linked thimerosal to
immune system dysfunction
in mice.
Many autistic
children have irregular immune systems.
The study found that
thimerosal "dramatically" altered
immune system cells and "even extremely small amounts of thimerosal
interfered significantly" with
immune system
cells after just a few minutes of exposure.
Thimerosal is still
found in some ear and nose drops, skin creams, cosmetics and adult
diphtheria and
tetanus vaccines.
Children's flu vaccines can be found either with or without thimerosal,
although the thimerosal containing version is far more prevalent.

tactics in its attempt to clear thimerosal of any connection with
neurodevelopmental
