China cedes control of
the Liaodong Peninsula to the Japanese in the first
Sino-Japanese
War.

1897 Herbert Hoover arrives as a virtually penniless geologist
fresh out of Stanford's first
graduating class sweltering boomtown seeking his fortune in Western
Australia's gold stampede.
On an early expedition, a camelback trip into
the desert, he camps near an obscure mine developed by three Welshmen.
Intuiting windfall profit
under assertive management, Hoover encourages his British employers to buy
the operation and put him in charge.
The mine, called Sons of
Gwalia (Gaelic for "Wales"),
earns $55 million over the next six decades (more than $350 million in current
dollars), yielding more than 2 million ounces of gold.
It is one of the
most productive mines in Australian history.
1899 Herbert Hoover
arrives in China, at the age of 24, with a
reputation earned in the Australian gold fields as a shrewd and energetic mine
manager.
Chang Yan-mao controls the Kaiping Coal Mines.
Chang, looking for protection deeds over the entire enterprise to
Hoover as trustee, contingent that the enterprise be recapitalized with an
additional 1,000,000 £ and reconstituted as a joint Sino-British
enterprise.
British shareholders end up with 62.5% of the mine in
exchange for British
"protection".
The Kaiping Coal Company scandal in
China set off the
Boxer ("Fighters United for
Justice") Rebellion.

Kokuryūkai is founded in by martial artist Uchida Ryohei as a
successor to his mentor Mitsuru Toyama's Gen'yosha.
Its public goal is
to support efforts to keep the Russian Empire north of the Amur River and out
of East Asia.
The Kokuryūkai initially made strenuous
efforts to distance itself from the criminal elements of its predecessor, the
Gen'yosha.
As a result, its membership included Cabinet Ministers and
high-ranking military officers as well as professional secret agents.
However, as time passed, it found the use of criminal activities to be
a convenient means to an end for many of its operations.
The Society
published a journal, and operated an espionage training school, from which it
dispatched agents to gather intelligence on Russian activities in Russia,
Manchuria, Korea and China.
Ikki Kita was sent to China as a special
member of the organization.
It also pressured Japanese politicians to
adopt a strong foreign policy.
The
Kokuryūkai also supported
Pan-Asianism, and lent
financial support to revolutionaries such as Sun Yat-sen and Emilio
Aguina
1904 Japan fearing the
completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway attack Russian positions starting the
Russian-Japanese
War.
1905 Americans supply the
Japanese with 5 Holland-type VII-P submarines from the American Electric
Boat Company.
1914 When the
Great War starts Hoover is a mining engineer and
financier living in London.
As hostilities erupt tens of thousands of
American tourists
trying to get home find paper securities and
travelers' checks
are not being honored.
Hoover sets up and
organized an "American committee" to "get the busted Yankee home," making loans
and cashing checks as
needed.
Emile Francqui*, a director of the Société
Générale de Belgique, operator of
the Belgian colony in the
Belgian Congo, enlists Hoover whom he knew as a director in the Chinese
Engineering and Mining Company and sets up the Belgian
Relief.
Even though Herbert Hoover has been barred from dealing on
the London Stock
Exchange and his associate Stanley Rowe has been sent to prison for ten
years Herbert Hoover is chosen as CEO for the Commission for the Relief of
Belgium, an incorporated
non-government organization, with its own
flag,
navy,
factories,
mills and
railroads.
Donations and
government grants supply
a $12-million-a-month budget.
The world is told that the purpose of
Belgian Relief effort is to
feed the Belgian
people. The real purpose is to
feed the German
army.
1915
Edith Cavell, write to the Nursing Mirror in London on April 15, 1915
complaining that the Belgian Relief supplies were being shipped to
Germany to feed the German army.
Sir William Wiseman, head of British
Intelligence, and partner of Kuhn &
Loeb has Edith Cavell executed as a spy.
1916
One billion lb of meat, one and a
half billion lb of potatoes, one and a half
billion pounds of bread, and one
hundred twenty-one million lb of butter are shipped from Belgium to
Germany.
Herbert
Hoover's principal assistants are Prentiss Gray and Julius H. Barnes later
became partners in J.
Henry Schröder in New York after the war and amass large fortunes.
Julius H. Barnes became President of the Grain Corporation from
1917 to 1918, and
Prentiss Gray was chief of Marine Transportation.
J. Henry
Schröder partner, GA Zabriskie, is appointed head of the US Sugar
Equalization Board.
ME Rionda, is president of
Cuba Cane, and director of
Manati Sugar, American British and Continental
Corporation.
Kurt Freiherr von
Schröder, is a director of Sao Paulo Coffee and
North British and Mercantile Insurance Company.
GA Zabriskie
presides over several of the largest baking corporations in the US: Empire
Biscuit, Southern Baking Corporation, Columbia Baking.
1917 Woodrow
Wilson appoints Herbert Hoover head the newly created US Food
Administration.
Herbert Hoover choses Lewis Lichtenstein Strauss*
as his principal assistant in the US Food Administration.
Lewis
Lichtenstein Strauss become a partner in Kuhn
& Loeb after marrying the daughter of Jerome Hanauer of Kuhn &
Loeb.
1919
Herbert Hoover founds the Hoover
Institute at Stanford University.
1921 Less than half of
Ukrainan arable land is under
cultivation, food is almost unattainable.
Hoovers American Relief
Administration (ARA), a quasi-governmental relief organization created in
1919 through government appropriations and private donations, sets off to
establish missions throughout the vast expanse of Russia.
Two years
later, the ARA had managed to set up thousands of kitchens, administer about
eight million inoculations.
Anti-Soviet sentiment in the ARA reinforced
Soviet officials anti-American prejudices ultimately hindering the efficacy of
the mission.
Vladimir Lenin refused the first American offers of food
aid in 1919 and 1920.
The only alcohol being brought into Russia by the
ARA was pure alcohol for medical purposes.
The first large medicinal
shipment in June 1922 .

Rosenberg
coordinated with the ARA and later directed a separate organization, the
American Jewish Joint Agricultural Corporation, Agro-Joint.
By
means of Agro-Joint and a subsidiary called the American Society for Jewish Farm
Settlements in Russia, Rosenberg worked within the Soviet political
system to help direct $8,000,000 of donated aid in order to resettle 300,000
displaced Jews from Russian
ghettos onto farms mainly in
the Crimea.
Strauss became Hoover's private secretary and confidant
at one point.
Liberty is not collective,
it is personal.

difficult to claim that
a bankruptcy procedure
that protects business and subordinates or dismisses the claims of workers and
injured plaintiffs establishes justice?
How can spending trillions of
dollars to save financial
institutions and other businesses whose very own actions brought down
the global economy be construed as
establishing justice or even promoting the general welfare?
These actions clearly conflict
with the Constitution's stated goals.
Shouldn't they have been
declared unconstitutional?

people with the right to petition for a redress of grievances, it does not
clearly provide that right to organizations or corporations and it certainly
does not provide to anyone the right to petition the government for special
advantages.

August 3, 1923 Vice President Coolidge is in Vermont visiting

received word by messenger of Harding's death.
Coolidge dressed, said a
prayer, and came downstairs to greet the reporters.
His father, a notary
public and justice of the peace, administered the oath of office in the
family's parlor by the light of a kerosene lamp at 2:47 a.m. on August 3,
whereupon the President of the United States returned to bed.
