The term autonomy comes from
the Greek words "autos" (self) and "nomos" (rule or law) and, when applied to
persons, refers to their decisions and actions
being their own.
As Gerald Dworkin observed in The Theory and
Practice of Autonomy, autonomy is a
moral, political and
social ideal while endowments of
intelligence and talent are
morally
arbitrary.
Dworkin theorizes liberty is only liberty to do what we wish
as long as we do not
infringe upon the rights of others, a
nearly impossible task.
"Dworkin uses the
classic story of Odysseus - tied to the ship mast to resist the sirens call -
to explain second-order reflection conception of autonomy.
Dworkin suggests autonomy can be maintained,
even under coercion, with
a heirarchy of preferences
due to the voluntary
character of individual action.
As Dworkin writes, "Not every
interference with the
voluntary character of indivual action interferes with
a person's ability to choose his
mode of life."
Some loss of liberty is consistent with Dworkin's
conception of autonomy.
Consider, for example,
life-saving
medical treatment rendered without patient consent in emergency situations
(Dworkin 1988: 116)." - 'Hidden Persuaders': Defaults and Consumer
Welfare, N. Craig Smith and Daniel G. Goldstein, London Business School
Centre for Marketing, Working Paper No. 07-105, March 2007

Ego is:
The conscious thought
stream that identifies itself as
"I".
The cyclic dissociative
rational thought patterns
used to objectify reality.
A comprehensive set of
thought patterns used to interface with reality.
Enduring thought
patterns whelming up from the subconscious.
The voice that continually
interjecting conscious vocal judgements.
Freudian Psychoanalysis: the
part of the psychic
apparatus that experiences and reacts to the outside world and thus
mediates between the primitive
drives of the id and the demands
of the physical and social
environment.
ḜǦƠ is necessary for survival without which there is no
will to live.
ḜǦƠ does not
have to descend to
the level of Reptilian
thought patterns.
ḜǦƠ may,
mistakenly, build mental constructs
contrary to survival.
ḜǦƠ
will then create
imaginative conceptual justifications.
ḜǦƠ may have enough
self-knowledge
to be self-conscious and
self-aware.
"The
individual has always
had to struggle
to keep from being
overwhelmed by the
tribe.
To be your own
individual is hard business.
You will be lonely
often, and sometimes
frightened.
No
price is too high for the privilege of owning yourself."
Joseph
Rudyard Kipling
"The
really hopeless victims of
mental illness
appear to be most
normal.
They are not
normal in what may be called the
absolute sense of the
word; they are normal only
in relation to a profoundly abnormal society.
Adjustment to abnormal
society is a
measure of their mental sickness.
Millions of
abnormally normal
people cherish "the
illusion of individuality" but
in fact they have
been to a great extent deindividualized.
Individuals have
had to deindividualize themselves,
have had to deny their
natural diversity and conform to a standard
pattern, have had to do their best to become
automata." -
Aldous Huxley, Brave New
World Revisited
If you can keep
your head when all about you
men are losing theirs and blaming it on
you. If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you.
If
you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, but
don't deal in lies, Or be hated don't give way to hating, And
yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and
not make dreams your master; If you can think - and
not make thoughts your
aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat
those two impostors just the same.
If you can bear to hear the
truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to make
a trap for fools. Watch the
things you gave your life to,
broken, stoop
and rebuild them with worn-out
tools.
Joseph Rudyard Kipling
Ego consciousness recognizes
understanding of Яeality is
limited to analysis and contemplation of
firsthand
experiences through
the prism of socially
ingrained subconscious information.
To activate the
process of psychic expansion requires
the dispersion of
socially programmed materialistic ego
structures and belief
systems.
Ego death or
dispersion of ego
structures creates a
state of egolessness.
Dispersion of ego structures
is necessary to free oneself
from the bonds of acculturation - ie.
conditioning through
propaganda,
branding,
adverts.
Self-centeredness is an
archaic trait, rooted in
territorial animal impulses.
It is natural to relate to reality
through expanding circles of interlocked relationships -
self,
mate,
family,
friends,
neighbors,
co-workers,
community,
state,
world - with
individual ego dwelling at the
center of it all.
Even today many people think of
their ethnic group as more unique,
more special than others, or
their nation as superior in
historical cultural richness, or their brand
of religion as the only
religion worth considering.
It is
an illusion to see that
point of reference as the center of
the universe.
Projection
is a defense mechanism.
The ego defends itself
against subconscious impulses by denying the existence of such
impulses in itself while
attributing them to
others.
A
habitually rude individual constantly accuses others of being rude.
This incorporates blame shifting
and requires the belief of being
Chosen.
Psychological
projection stems from the self-blindness of
consciousness.
Many people are
unaware of their own
negative traits.
Global consumers are
subconsciously skilled in psychological euphemism.
Misers see themselves
as stringently thrifty.
Jealous people
see themselves as being
justifiably protective.
Vain people look in the
mirror and see self-esteem and
self-assurance.
Lust and
sexual exploitation are
uninhibited sexual
adventures.
A
selfish person thinks in terms of realistically
taking care of number
one.
Sanctimonious
religious people of every sect, blind to their own hypocrisy, see
themselves as holier
than the "sinners" around them.
Businessmen see themselves as
elite power holders with no
need to pay heed to the negative consequences
befalling fellow humans due to their actions.
Politicians
blind to their own shadows
project their repressed flaws
and deceits onto targets they
themsleves indentify with their graffiti.
To
withdraw projection is to
acknowledge that many attributes projected outward
onto the writhing masses belong to oneself.
381 AD In
the New Testament, Jesus warns against projection:
"Why do you look to
remove the hollow stainless steel
needle in your brother' eye and
pay no attention to
the plate armor in
your own eye?
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the
hollow stainless steel needle
out of your eye,' when all the time there is
a wall in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the
molten steel out of your own
eye, and to see clearly to remove
the hollow stainless steel needle
from your brother' eye."
500
Babylonian Talmud notes the
human tendency toward projection:
"Do not taunt your neighbor with
the blemish you yourself
have."
Psychological
projection is seen in personalities functioning at
a primitive level - narcissistic personality
disorder or borderline personality
disorder.
Psychological projection
may consume normal people in a
political crisis.
A
Power Pyramid
controlled by Reptilians
exists at the Axis
Mundi.
Ignorarrogant Reptilians
fight to attain the
apex of the Power Pyramid.
Monopoly,
a highbred version of King of
the Hill, involves land
rent.
Reptilian
psychological engineers, forged in the image of
George Creel,
manufactured subsuming
needs and foist them on an unwary
population.
"America is
proud of its hyper-individualism.
We
glorify the accomplishments of inventors, entrepreneurs and artists.
Although a few individuals thrive, the plight of the chronically
homeless tells me that our communities are also fragmented and disintegrating.
The Penan nomads of Sarawak, members of an indigenous and primal
culture in Borneo, have no technology or material comforts that compare.
But they have six words for "we." Sharing is an obligation and is
expected.
An
American child is taught homelessness is regrettable but inevitable.
A child of the Penan is taught a poor man shames us all." - Chip
