but famine drove them for
sustenance into Egypt.

The Israelites formed
their capital in the city of Samaria, and the Judaeans kept their capital in
Jerusalem.
These kingdoms remained separate states for over two hundred
years.
722 BC Assyrians
led by Sargon conquer Israel and scattered the ten northern tribes many of
which migrated to Judah and Jerusalem.

The Hebrews would assemble together, a scholar of the
Scriptures would read and expound upon them, and
the people would
pray and worship.
By developing this system where Scripture study was
at the center of their worship services, the elders of the Hebrews were able to
impress the Torah.
The people preserved a considerable amount of their
cultural and religious identity and did not assimilate entirely into
Babylon.
Synagogue worship and the
tradition of scriptural
scholarship lived on even after the Hebrews returned to their homeland and
rebuilt the Temple.
Thereafter the Pharisees modified the existing law
for political expediency.
The Pharisees
developed a formal
method of exegesis known as
Midrash by which
they could read their
political control mechanisms into the biblical text, and
read contradictions to their
political control mechanisms out of it.
Midrash is not sound
sacred text exegesis.
These 'interpretations' frequently overturn what Torah literally
says.
The Talmud never explicitly rejects anything from the Torah, on
the other hand if it doesn't like what the Torah says it interprets it out of
existence.
